COMPETITION PROGRAMSCompetition programs of 10th Student and Short Film Festival Sleepwalkers.
About the International Student Films Competition program:
From over 600 student works, the festival's program team chose 25 (fiction, documentaries, animations, experimental films) in which one can find beauty and pain, sterility and grotesque, enchanting narratives and esthetic pleasure. As always, the aim is to offer the most varied overview possible of what's currently happening in the world of short films.
About the Estonian Short Film Competition program:
This year the competition of Estonian shorts is taking place for the fourth time. Its program carries the idea of giving a good overview of short films recently produced in Estonia. In previous years the Estonian short film landscape has been rather modest, but now it seems that powered by the energy and youthfulness of Baltic Film and Media School and Estonian Art Academy’s animation department, the piles of films received by the pre-selection committee of the Festival have grown a lot, making the choice really tough. In addition to the students’ entry calls, also professionals have started to show more interest in joining the competition.
The films are even more diverse thanks to the interesting and multiple co-productions made by filmmakers from different counties and cultures. The Estonian competition program includes co-operation of Estonians, Russians, Latvians and Finnish.
Short film is exciting and most certainly a challenging form of art. And it seems that short film has become a value on its own in Estonia. Because – short is awesome!
